Wherever I go, I am always the baker of the group. As a result, this has gotten me recruited to be the one to make desserts for special occasions numerous times. Whether it be birthdays, baby showers, going away parties, or potlucks, I am always whipping up something different to fit the occasion.
But what do you make for somebody who doesn’t have a sweet tooth? I know what you’re thinking. Those people exist!?!?!
Not long ago, our cafeteria at work had Ooey Gooey Butter Cake out during lunch hour as part of their grab and go spread. They looked good, so I grabbed a small piece to enjoy after my salad. One bite of this little slice of heaven and I was in love, savoring the sweetness with a touch of something I just couldn’t place.

That night, I looked up the recipe for Ooey Gooey Butter Cake and found that they are extremely easy to make. And that hint of flavor turned out to be cream cheese. Can you ever go wrong with cream cheese? I filed this in the back of my mind until the weekend hit and my baking itch was full force.
Turns out, the recipe makes a lot. Like, way more than my husband and I can eat before they dried out and went bad. Guess what my co-workers got come Monday morning? You guessed it…Ooey Gooey Butter Cake!
These bars have just the perfect amount of sweetness to satisfy your sweet tooth. Better yet, they are mild enough that even those who don’t care for sweets find them enjoyable. Two of the people in my office don’t like sweets and one doesn’t like dessert-type recipes. All of them tried the bars and had more than one.
So when one of the non-sweet eaters birthdays came around, I knew exactly what to make…Ooey Gooey Butter Cake!
